Why We Read for MND 💙📚

Sometimes a fundraiser starts with an idea. Sometimes it starts with something that touches your life personally.

For me, Mystery Book Nook – Read for MND is very personal.

Someone close to my family has been living with the devastating reality of Motor Neurone Disease. Watching someone you care about face a disease like MND changes the way you look at things. It makes you realise just how much we still need better treatments, more answers and, ultimately, a cure.

And I wanted to do something.

I may not be able to find the cure myself, but I can help support the people who are working towards it.

That's where Mystery Book Nook – Read for MND began.

📚 Turning books into hope

I've always loved books and the idea of giving pre-loved books another chance. So I thought, why not combine that passion with something that could make a real difference?

And that's how the Mystery Book Nook was born.

We collect and receive books, wrap them up and turn them into mystery books. Instead of choosing a book by its cover, you choose by the clues, genre and little review on the outside — and then you get to unwrap your mystery and discover your next great read.

It's a simple idea, but behind every book is something much bigger.

💙 Why your support matters

MND can take away so much from people and their families. It can change lives in ways that are incredibly difficult to describe.

That's why raising money for research is so important to me.

Every book someone buys, every donation someone makes, every box of books someone gives us and every time someone shares our fundraiser helps us keep moving forward.

It might be $5.

It might be a donated book.

It might be sharing one of our Facebook posts with a friend.

Whatever it is, it all adds up.

And when lots of people come together, those little acts of kindness can become something incredibly powerful.

For me, Read for MND isn't about simply raising money.

It's about doing something positive in the face of something that can feel incredibly unfair.

It's about taking something that brings people happiness — a good book — and using it to help support research that could one day change the lives of people affected by MND.

I want Mystery Book Nook to keep growing.

I want more people to discover us, more books to find new homes and more money to go towards supporting MND research.

Most importantly, I want people affected by MND and their families to know that there are people out here who care and who are willing to do whatever they can to help.
